The Ugly Truth

This has been a really rough year, career-wise, and I have slacked off on my fitness routine like a backsliding alcoholic. In April I completed the 39-mile Avon Walk for the Cure for Breast Cancer in Houston, and that involved some heavy-duty training walks to build up for the event.

But after it was over, I basically went into survival mode, I guess, and stopped working out. My mother faced some major health issues, my job situation was deteriorating, my love life was, and still is, precarious.

I for one will not be sorry to say goodbye to 2009.

For the past couple of weeks I've been getting my dogs out with me for walks and tonight - taa-daa! I got back in the gym! Wow, I know I'm going to feel this tomorrow! But I know I can't tell other people what to do if I'm not living it. And I've been fitness-oriented for long enough to know that I really need it. I feel better in every way when I am fit.

And you will, too. Tomorrow, we'll do the obligatory resolution column. Yea!
